The deficit of approximately 50% of solar neutrinos has now been confirmed by four experiments (SAGE, GALLEX, Super-Kamiokande, SNO) as well as by the original Davis experiment several decades earlier. A brilliant idea in this regard was to use heavy water (deuterium) in the SNO experiment to detect all three flavors of neutrinos.
