General Steinhoff, a former Luftwaffe ace, dies. He fought in the skies of North Africa, England, Sicily, and Germany. He ended up under investigation by the SS because of his rebellion against the absurd orders of his superiors. After the war, he became the main architect of the rebirth of the German military aviation in NATO.
