University of Munich. Matthias Hoss and Svante Paabo publish “The Silica Extraction Method,” showing the results of the first extraction of myochondrial DNA (mDNA) from animal bones tens of thousands of years old. In this case, the bones were from Pleistocene horses dating back 25,000 years. In 1994, the DNA extraction will be repeated for mammoths as old as 50,000 years.
