Roger Penrose states his first, revolutionary, Singularity Theorem. It states that a Singularity occurs inside a black hole if a massive dead star contracts under its own gravity. Roger Penrose was inspired to study the topic by Dennis Sciama, a friend of his brother Oliver. Sciama had worked on the steady-state universe with Hoyle, Bondi, and Gold, but had later converted to the Big Bang Theory after the discovery of the cosmic microwave background radiation.
