New Zealand mathematician Roy Kerr finds another exact solution to Einstein’s equations, allowing for the existence of wormholes. A wormhole is a tear in space-time that connects us to another space-time. Thought to be a curiosity rather than a real possibility, it was later proven by Roy Kerr. Solving the relativistic equations for a collapsing massive star, he found that it did not collapse into a point but into a ring with wormhole properties. All this, of course, without considering the quantum effects that would likely make it unstable. A wormhole would make not only space travel possible, but also time travel. Time travel had already been demonstrated to be compatible, in some forms, with Relativity by Kurt Gödel in 1949, also at Princeton, where, like Einstein, he shared morning walks.
