Hong Kong. Fairchild’s first offshore integrated circuit factory in Hong Kong assembled 120 million devices with excellent quality in its first year of operation. Soon, Texas Instruments and Motorola would follow Fairchild’s lead in the Far East. For the part of Asia known as the Indo-Pacific, all of this would make a huge difference in the second half of the 20th century and well into the 21st.
