Just a year after Jack Kilby invented them, the MIT Instrumentation Lab received the first integrated circuits produced by Texas Instruments. MIT purchased 64 of them at a price of $1,000 each. The order was, “Go out and buy a large quantity of those things and see if they’re real!”
