Milan. Ernesto Gabrielli and the Della Porta family patented the getter to solve the vacuum problem in TV cathode ray tubes. Shortly thereafter, Philco, a world leader in the sector, placed an order with Gabrielli and Della Porta’s SAES Getter for one billion dollars in getters. To fulfill the order, SAES Getter opened a factory in Gallarate and was subsequently listed on the Milan Stock Exchange and then on the NASDAQ.
