Nevada. Area 51. The U-2 Dragon Lady spy plane is tested. A total of 104 will be built, the latest, updated models built in the 1980s. Most will still be in service at the beginning of the 21st century. It can fly at an altitude of 70,000 feet, with a range of over 6,000 miles and back.
