American agronomist Norman Borlaug spent years and decades crossbreeding wheat, corn, and rice until he developed extremely productive and resilient crops. By combining these species with modern cultivation techniques, Borlaug transformed countries like Mexico, India, and Pakistan from starving countries into net exporters of wheat, corn, and rice in just a few years, doubling or tripling yields per hectare.
