The Sandia Laboratories at Los Alamos begin mass production of nuclear weapons. After the Nagasaki Mark-3, they produce the Mark-4, then the Mark-5 and -7, small enough to be loaded onto US Navy aircraft. Work has already begun on the Mark-12, Mark-13, and Mark-15, which are much more powerful than the previous ones.
