The Soviets test their first long-range bomber, the Tupolev-4. It is an accurate copy of the American B-29. In fact, in 1944, two years earlier, three American B-29s were forced to make an emergency landing in Siberia after attacking Japanese forces in Manchuria. They were requisitioned by the Soviets and never returned. The Tupolev is an accurate copy of the General Arnold, one of three captured B-20s, even featuring an aluminum patch with which the General Arnold had been repaired.
