Grace Hopper, while working on the Harvard faculty with the Mark II computer, one of the very first, while trying to solve a problem, found a moth stuck, short-circuiting, in a relay. In her report, she cited the moth (a bug, in fact) as evidence of the software bug she had found. Thus the term “software bug” was born.
