Leonarda Cianciulli, known as the soap maker of Correggio, moved to Correggio with her husband. She was indicted for killing and then dissolving at least three people in caustic soda: Faustina Setti, Francesca Soavi, and Virginia Cacioppo, to make soap and sweets (with blood). The serial murders allegedly occurred in Correggio from 1930 to 1940. Cianciulli died in a criminal asylum in Pozzuoli in 1970.
