London. John Logie Bard demonstrates the transmission of a television signal via telephone lines between Glasgow and London. The following year, transmission takes place between London and New York. John Logie Bard will also be a pioneer of fiber optics, color TV, and synchronous sound and picture. However, he suffers from limited cooperation from the BBC (which at the time had a monopoly on radio broadcasting in the UK) and strong opposition from Guglielmo Marconi, who is allied with powerful American interests, including RCA (Radio Corporation of America), which will develop a competing TV system, known as Marconi-EMI.
