In Belgium, the priest Georges Lemaitre, a deeply religious Quaker, conducted the most comprehensive study of the time on the simplest universes predicted by General Relativity. He went beyond Einstein, de Sitter, and Friedmann, also introducing the possibility that the model of the universe contained not only stars and galaxies, but also radiation with significant pressure, thus approaching physical reality.
