King Camp Gillette, an American businessman, decided to use inexpensive steel derived from the Bessemer process to create a disposable razor. This marked the democratization of shaving. In 1903, he sold 51 razors and 168 blades. In 1904, he sold 90,884 razors and 123,648 blades. By 1915, Gillette had established itself in several countries around the world and was generating revenues of over $70 million. In 2005, Procter & Gamble acquired Gillette for $57 billion.
