The Pittsburgh Reduction Company, which later became Alcoa, was founded. A key factor in making the business viable was the introduction of high-voltage AC (made possible by AC transformers, which DC was not possible at the time). As Tesla predicted, the take-off of the aluminum industry would make the aviation industry possible.
