United States. The bicycle craze reaches America. And the Wright brothers take advantage of it to open a bicycle sales and repair shop. Since cycling is mostly done in the summer, they have a lot of free time in the winter, which they use to experiment with new ideas. They first build a small experimental helicopter. But above all, they realize that the problem to solve isn’t power, but control, as with bicycles. In 1899, they build a glider to test wing surfaces, and in 1900, they make their first flight in the fall, followed by the first manned flight in December 1903.
