The Cantino Charter, stolen from Lisbon in 1502 by Alberto Cantino, agent of the Duke of Modena and Ferrara, was lost following the sacking of the city of Modena. It was rediscovered by Giuseppe Boni, director of the Estense Library, a few months later in a city shop.
