Bukhara, Central Asia. The two British officers, Charles Stoddart and Arthur Connolly, enter the city and don’t dismount their horses as a sign of respect. They are captured and imprisoned for months in a cell where maggots literally strip them alive. Then they are released and beheaded to celebrate a military victory.
