Vermont, United States. Thomas Davenport invents the first DC commutator electric motor and obtains a patent. He powers it with batteries, which were quite scarce at the time. And electrical power distribution did not yet exist. The first DC electric motor had been invented by William Sturgeon just a few years earlier, in 1832.
