With the Battle of San Jacinto and the annexation of Texas by the United States, the United States became the dominant power in North America. Mexico’s defeat was not as obvious as it might seem today, as Mexico was, in the 19th century, much more developed and wealthy than the United States, but it struggled to bring reinforcements and extend supply lines to revolting Texas.
