The hypothesis, first proposed by Immanuel Kant (in 1755) and even earlier by Isaac Newton (although never published in written form), regarding the formation of the celestial system as the vortical motion of a primitive nebula, was revived and developed by Pierre-Simon de Laplace. Today, it is considered the first formulation of the theory of the formation of galaxies and planetary systems.
