Spain. Francisco Salva built the first telegraph line. It connected Madrid to Aranjuez, covering a distance of 50 kilometers. He laid a cable for each letter of the alphabet so that the different letters of the message would be illuminated in turn. He also apparently considered attaching a person to each cable who would shout the letter as soon as they felt the shock.
