Bolognese physician Vincenzo Menghini roasts the blood of various mammals, including humans (it’s unclear how he obtained it), as well as the blood of birds and fish. He then inserts a magnetic knife into the solid residue and observes with satisfaction that various particles are attracted to the blade: from 140g of blood, he extracts 28g of ferromagnetic material.
