In a letter to Richard Bentley, Isaac Newton stated that with an infinite number of stars, they would not have clustered together due to gravitational pull, since they would have no central point; today we know that this is wrong because an infinite number of stars can be created by infinitely adding layers to a sphere (which has a central point).
