Leibniz, working in almost total isolation, emulated Newton’s work from a decade earlier (but not yet published and therefore unknown) by producing the technique of infinite series and his own version of infinitesimal calculus; a strong disagreement then arose between the English and Europeans regarding the paternity of the invention-discovery; Leibniz’s notation was then the one used worldwide.
