Isaac Newton, in a letter to John Collins, announces the birth, the existence, of the tool of mathematical analysis. With his treatise “On the Methods of Series and Fluxions,” he developed, for example, the notion of convergence of series, which he would later use fruitfully in Principia Mathematica.
