1670

South Carolina. The ship Carolina reaches the New World. It lands on a beach with the white skeletons of trees eaten away by the sea. On board are humble English farmers and servants, with the prospect of hard work clearing the land. No gold, no silver, no great riches like the Spanish and Portuguese were finding in South America. In 1670, there is no doubt: the future lies in South America, certainly not in North America.
