French troops battle the Spanish west of Milan, and the Venetian army attempts to relieve Mantua, besieged by the Germans. But after a single defeat, the Venetian army disintegrates, and Mantua is sacked with all the horrors of the Thirty Years’ War. Only Swedish intervention will halt the Habsburg victories and save Venice.
