Pope Leo X asked Paul of Fossombrone to contact Copernicus to ask his opinion on the reform of the ecclesiastical calendar; the latter took care to provide as complete an answer as possible and wrote to the following pope (Pope Paul III, the same one who commissioned the Sistine Chapel to Michelangelo) a long document that would later serve as the basis for the birth of the Gregorian calendar.
