In a treaty with the Turks, Venice renounced its ambitions over many cities in Albania and Greece. This marked a secular turning point in Venetian policy, which for the first time turned more toward the mainland. This treaty thus marked the beginning of the decline of Venice’s maritime power, previously considered the dominant power in the Mediterranean.
