The Marquis of Ferrara commissioned a team of artists to create an illuminated Bible. It was the most valuable illuminated manuscript in Italy: the Borso d’Este Bible. It took them six years to complete. It was exported from Italy and purchased by Senator Giovanni Treccani during World War I at an auction in Paris. In 1923, he donated it to the Modenese Library, where it is now located.
