From the Flemish, the technique of oil paints came to Italy. Brunelleschi, Donatello, Masaccio, and Leon Battista Alberti brought about a revolution in Western art, known as the Renaissance: the mastery of perspective, the mathematical conception of composition, and the admiration for Greco-Roman classical antiquity.
