Orhan, son of Osman or Othman (“Ottoman” means sons of Othman), a client of the Seljuk Turks, was granted territory near Constantinople. Here they would develop as warriors in border clashes with the Byzantines. By 1360, the Ottomans had more territory on the European side than in Asia.
