Japan. 100,000 Chinese troops join forces with 40,000 Koreans and Mongolians to land on the island of Kyushu in Japan. Meanwhile, the Japanese had built a massive wall around Hakata Bay, the site of the previous Mongol landing. After the landing, the attacking forces fought for two long months, unable to advance beyond the wall, which blocked the Mongol cavalry. Then, once again, a typhoon struck the Mongol troops in the open, forcing them to retreat home. The mission had been prepared for years with great expenditure of manpower and money, and its failure would have severe repercussions in Beijing.
