8:40 am: second and final wave of the Japanese attack: the USS Shaw and USS Sotoyomo are sunk, the Nevada scuttles itself to avoid blocking access to the port; in total 12 American ships and 5 Japanese submarines will be sunk, the dead will be 2395 Americans and 64 Japanese, the destroyed planes will be 164 Americans and 29 Japanese; in a few months all the sunken American ships, except the Arizona, the Oklahoma and the training ship Utah, will be recovered and will actively participate in the war in the Pacific
