US President Donald Trump announced the unilateral withdrawal of the United States from the INF Treaty (Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces), signed with the Soviets in 1987 by Reagan and Gorbachev, due to Russia’s repeated violations of the treaty in recent years (particularly the nuclear cruise tests repeatedly announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin). The move is also seen as a way to contain Chinese expansionism, as China was not a party to the INF Treaty.
