The Russian Foton M3 probe, in collaboration with ESA, is launching a colony of tardigrades into orbit. They will be transported into the vacuum of circumterrestrial space and exposed to direct ionizing solar radiation. The vacuum will have almost no effect on them, while ionizing radiation will cause casualties, but a good percentage will survive the 10-day duration of the experiment.
