9:06 UTC (10:06 Italy): The Cassini spacecraft’s Huygens module enters Titan’s thick atmosphere at 22,000 km/h, west of the continent of Xanadu. Podo then takes hundreds of photographs from various altitudes and collects valuable scientific data. It lands intact and functional on Titan on a muddy surface, at a temperature of -179°C (-300°F). The air, at 1.5 bar, is composed of 95% nitrogen and 5% methane. It is still there, in an area called Adiri.
