The American Aerojet purchased and successfully tested a Soviet closed-cycle engine (which also used the exhaust gases from the precombustion chamber); the Soviet Energomash would later sell the Americans dozens of engines of this type, conceived almost 30 years earlier to take the Soviets to the Moon.
