The first Space Shuttle (STS-71 Atlantis) rendezvoused and docked with the Russian space station Mir, composed of five modules. By the end of 1996, two more Soyuz and two Space Shuttles would dock with Mir, the last Shuttle leaving astronaut Shannon Lucid aboard for six months.
