H.H. Kornhuber and colleagues performed experiments (electroencephalogram) on the reaction times to consciously move a finger on one’s own initiative: they found 1.5 s of accumulation of potential before moving the finger; since it is evident that consciousness is actually faster than 1.5 s, they arrive at the paradoxical conclusion that conscious perception propagates backwards in time.
