ARPANET Project. Robert Kahn, a former BBN employee, and Vincent Cerf, who wrote the first RFC (Request for Comments) for the ARPANET, developed TCP-IP: Transmission Control Protocol – Internet Protocol. Cerf was present at the first use of the ARPANET in October 1969; he is a science fiction and fantasy enthusiast (he rereads The Lord of the Rings every year). In 1989, for the Internet’s 20th anniversary celebrations, he prepared a theatrical parody called “Rosencrans and Ethernet,” and in 2014 he joined Google. Cerf commented in the 21st century: “The amount of data and connected computers has increased more than a millionfold. And it all works perfectly. Not many things can do that without problems.”
