Uganda. While elected President Milton Obote is traveling abroad, Idi Amin Dada, with the support of his loyal armed forces, carries out a coup. It is the beginning of one of the worst military dictatorships the world has ever seen. After expelling all Indian immigrants (brought by the British for the service sector), wrecking the economy, and executing hundreds of thousands of his fellow citizens, he also provokes an armed conflict with neighboring Tanzania, which backfires, forcing him to resign in 1979. He takes refuge in Saudi Arabia, citing his Islamic faith, where he dies in 2003.
