Stephen Hawking and Roger Penrose prove the Singularity Theorem. If space and time are sufficiently homogeneous, time travel is impossible, there is enough matter and radiation, gravity is always attractive, and General Relativity holds always and everywhere, then there exists at least one history of space and time that must have had a beginning (the Singularity). Note that this is a theorem, not a theory.
