ARPANET Project. Informally, the ARPANET becomes operational. An undergraduate student, Charley Kline, supervised by Crocker and Cerf, from UCLA connects to SRI, 500 kilometers away, via telephone line, using a login sequence. Dial “L” and the other end confirms reception. Then dial “O” and it’s OK. Then “G” and the system crashes, due to a software bug. But the system essentially worked. 1969 ends with: 1) man on the moon, 2) the birth of the microprocessor, 3) the internet.
