Czechoslovakian scientists, funded by the Soviets, had been researching chemical weapons and drugs for years (since the Korean War). In the 1960s, LSD was tested and plans were made to use the drug in the drinking water system, before the Red Army entered a European armed conflict. An LSD factory was built in Halle, East Germany (GDR), which was then smuggled to the West.
