The unmanned Surveyor 3 probe lands on the Moon; two years later, it will be joined on foot by Pete Conrad, who disembarked from the Apollo 12 LM. From the probe, Pete Conrad and Alan Bean will detach the camera (now on display at the Air & Space Museum in Washington, DC – pictured), whose O-ring will contain live Steptococcus mitis bacteria. The result, however, remains controversial, as it could be a result of contamination after re-entry to Earth.
